Design & Build

The B3 is the flight jacket bomber crews wore in unheated aircraft at altitude, the heaviest, warmest pattern in the flight-gear canon. This is that shape in real lambskin with a fur-lined interior.

The feature worth paying attention to is the removable collar. The big fur collar is what makes a B3 look like a B3, and it is also what makes it too warm and too bulky for most of the year. Take it off and you have a clean bomber you can wear from autumn through spring. Put it back on for genuinely cold mornings. Most B3s force you to choose once, at the point of purchase.

Hardware is solid brass, not plated, it wears to a deeper tone instead of flaking back to base metal. Zips are YKK throughout, which is the difference between a jacket you keep and one that fails at the zip in year two.

Yes, completely. On for cold weather, off for a cleaner bomber you can wear most of the year. It is the main reason to choose this over a fixed-collar B3.

Is the leather real?
Yes, the shell is real lambskin leather. The fur lining and collar are faux.

Why faux fur rather than real shearling?
It keeps the weight and the price down, and it is easier to care for. A real shearling B3 is warmer but considerably heavier and more expensive.

Why does brass hardware matter?
Solid brass wears to a deeper tone over time. Plated hardware eventually flakes back to the base metal, which is what makes an older jacket look cheap.

What zips does it use?
YKK throughout. Zip failure is the most common way a leather jacket dies, so it is worth specifying.

How does lambskin compare to cowhide?
Lambskin is softer and drapes closer to the body with no breaking in. Cowhide is thicker and more abrasion resistant. This is a jacket for wearing and riding rather than track use.

How warm is it?
