Design & Build

Quilting on a B3 is unusual and it does something specific. A standard aviator gets its shape from the thickness of the shearling, which is why it can look bulky and shapeless on a slimmer frame. Quilted panels hold the lining in place, so the jacket keeps a line instead of ballooning.

It also stops the lining shifting. On an unquilted shearling jacket the wool eventually settles toward the bottom, leaving the chest thinner than it started. Quilting fixes it where it was sewn.

The collar has a buckle strap. That is the detail that makes a B3 work on a bike rather than just look right standing still. The collar is wide and heavy, and without a buckle it flaps open the moment you pick up speed.

Brown shows the quilting better than black would. Light catches the raised panels and leaves the stitch lines darker, so the pattern reads from a distance.

The shell is genuine leather. The lining is faux shearling, which keeps the weight sensible and needs no specialist cleaning.
