The B3 is the jacket RAF and USAAF bomber crews wore at altitude in unheated aircraft, and the pattern has not needed changing since. Sheepskin with the wool left on is still one of the warmest linings available — it insulates without bulk and it breathes, which synthetic fill does not.

Thick shearling runs the collar, cuffs and hem, which is where cold air gets in. The buckle neck strap pulls the collar closed against wind at speed — the detail that separates a real B3 from a fashion copy.
