Design & Build

The buckle at the collar is the detail that makes this work as a riding jacket rather than a coat. Aviator collars are wide and heavy, and left open they flap. The buckle pulls the collar closed across your throat and holds it there, which is what the wartime originals did and what most modern versions leave off.

The cuffs zip. That matters on a jacket with a fur lining, because the sleeve is bulkier than a plain one and a fixed cuff either grips your wrist or lets air run up your arm. A zip closes it over a glove or opens to get a watch through.
